State Rep. Michael Skindell, D-13, announced his candidacy for the Ohio Senate 23rd District seat.

Now in his fourth term in the Ohio House, Skindell has been a leading advocate for consumer and environment issues. In 2007, he worked to get an addition into the state operating budget that provided for the first foreclosure prevention program established in Ohio. As part of House Bill 119, a fund was created for counties to use interest and fees from delinquent taxes for steps aimed at foreclosure prevention. On the environmental front, he was named the 2004 Environmental Legislator of the Year by the Ohio Environmental Council and he has continued to champion causes such as stopping the spread of the invasive species Asian carp into the Great Lakes.

In his Senate campaign, Skindell will emphasize priorities of jobs and further measures aimed at foreclosure prevention. He has been a leader in developing “green energy” jobs through construction projects such as the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center and University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center. Skindell also secured assistance in the form of clean-up dollars to help Great Lakes Towing expand its tugboat business.
